Computational Linguist's Toolkit

The aim of this course is to follow the thread of preceding courses

related to data/text processing, further develop acquired skills and

explore their practical applications in specific aspects of work of a

Computational Linguist, as well as Linguistic Projects

Coordinator/Manager.

Course participants will learn about the role Computational Linguist

plays in the development of speech and language-related

technologies and products. They will be able to apply the skills

related to scripting, creating regular expressions, analyzing text

and audio data and develop them towards being able to create,

verify, annotate or evaluate language data as wanted on the

constantly expanding market of voice and language technology-

related products, language AI as well as in research.

Working with computational linguistics requires not only various

skills related to data processing, but also being familiar with project

management and task planning tools and approaches. We will

briefly go through main methodologies applied in such projects and

tools that facilitate planning, execution, good communication within

teams and ways to automate processes that are repetitive.

We will also take a peek into some of the most satisfying aspects

of computational linguistics, such as having actual impact on the

final result in a product or in making research possible.

Students can:

- confidently work with text corpora using digital tools;

- confidently work with audio/speech corpora using digital tools;

- manage linguistic projects using language technology;

- automate processes and organise tasks in an efficient manner.

Practical exam (written) with tasks related to resolving issues

related to:

- work with text corpora,

- work with audio/speech corpora,

- linguistic project management.
